Unity

One chat for every Asheron's Call server.

Talk to players on any server, send private messages that wait for friends who are offline, and see who's around - through a Decal plugin you choose to install. No game server has to change anything, or even knows it's there.

Free. Needs Decal 2.9.7.5 or newer. The Unity window also needs Virindi View Service.

What it looks like

Names are in the game's own link green. Click one to message, friend or squelch that player.

What you get

Talk across servers

/u message reaches everyone on Unity, whichever server they play on.

Private messages

/ut name@server, message and /ur to reply. If they're offline, they get it next time they log in.

Friends

See which friends are on, on any server. Tick Appear Offline in the game and Unity hides you too.

Squelch

Never see someone's chat or messages again, on any of your characters. They aren't told.

Click any name

Private Message, Add Friend or Squelch, straight from chat.

Your chat windows

Put Unity in the main chat, any of chat windows 1 to 4, or several at once.

Install

  1. Download the installer above. Windows may say "Windows protected your PC" because Unity isn't code-signed - click More info, then Run anyway. The checksums below let you confirm you have the real file.
  2. Close Asheron's Call and run the installer. It registers Unity with Decal and installs to C:\Games\Decal Plugins\Unity unless you pick somewhere else.
  3. Log in and type /unity help. Open the Unity window from the Virindi bar, or with /unity window.

Updating: run the newer installer over the top - your names, friends and messages are kept. Unity tells you in game when there's a new version.

Installing by hand: right-click the zip, Properties, tick Unblock, then extract it. Copy UnityAC.dll to C:\Games\Decal Plugins\Unity\ and double-click Register-Unity.reg. The included read-me has the details.

What Unity sends, and what it keeps

Leaves your PC

Your character's name and server, whatever you type into Unity, and whether Appear Offline is on. Never your account name, your local, allegiance or fellowship chat, or anything else about your game. Everything goes over an encrypted connection to one relay, and nowhere else.

The relay remembers

Which key owns which names, your friends and squelch lists, and moderator bans and mutes. Private messages wait there only until they're delivered, 30 days at most. Unity chat is passed along, never stored.

Your key

On first run Unity creates %APPDATA%\UnityAC\identity.key. It owns your names - nobody else can speak as them. Back it up, copy it to a new PC to keep everything, and never give it to anyone.

Questions

Does my server have to do anything?

No. Unity runs entirely in your own client and talks only to the Unity relay. It never sends anything to your game server, and works the same on every server.

Is it a bot, or does it change the game?

No. It only adds chat. It never acts in the game for you, and never reads anything but your character's name, server and Appear Offline setting.

How do names work?

The first time a character signs in to Unity, its name is tied to that player's key, so nobody else can use it afterwards. If someone grabbed your character's name before you did, a Unity moderator can release it.

Why does Windows or my antivirus warn about it?

Unity is new and isn't code-signed, so Windows hasn't seen it before. Check the file against the SHA-256 above.

I don't have Virindi View Service.

Chat, private messages, clickable names and every command work without it. Only the Unity window needs it - it comes with the Virindi plugins most players already use.

Someone is bothering me.

Click their name and choose Squelch. Their Unity chat and private messages stop reaching you straight away, on all your characters, and they aren't told. Unity moderators can also mute or ban players who abuse the chat.

Can I turn it off?

/unity off stops Unity sending or receiving anything until /unity on. To remove it, uninstall "Unity" from Windows' Apps list. Your key and messages stay in %APPDATA%\UnityAC unless you delete that folder.
